Life as an Immigrant in the UK

Travel

The United Kingdom is indeed an influential and economically buoyant country, rich in culture and finesse. Thus, it is one of the countries with the highest number of immigrants in the world today. Statistics have shown that about 677,000 people migrated to the UK in 2019. Now, for immigrants, life could be beneficial and challenging because of the unfamiliar ways of life. Here are some essential tips you would need to find your feet in the UK.
  • As a UK immigrant, you are entitled to free health service from the National Health Service.  This health service was provided to make health care accessible to every citizen and resident of the UK.
  • There is a relatively high cost of living in the UK, depending on where you live. If you stay in London, the cost of living is higher. So, you would have to be frugal with spending to live a comfortable life.
  • Now, in the UK, politeness is taken seriously. You must say sorry when you offend someone. So, you will not be regarded as proud.  There is also a high preference for queues. You are not permitted to jump queues.
In conclusion, whatever your purpose of migrating is, work hard and strive to be the best. Excellence at work and school opens you to excellent opportunities. And you are assured of exciting experiences like Sunday roast, Buckingham tour, among others. Do not fret as an immigrant. You can achieve greatness here.

  1. Great perspective on life as an immigrant in the U.K. I can only imagine the sticker shock of the cost of living in England when coming from other countries around the world. It was pretty expensive even for us tourists living there a month from the States.

  2. I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't experienced it but no jumping queues is really an essential information. I was once in a museum in London and people waited in line for food and I only wanted a bottle of water, so i grabbed my bottle and jumped the queue. I thought they were going to murder me. The attendant quickly opened another cashier just for me to appease everyone else. That is when I thought, this is really not a country for me!
